The Township of Branchburg has several Boards and Commissions made up of volunteers from the community. DESCRIPTIONS OF BOARD/COMMISSIONS

 

Planning Board

 

The Planning Board meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Municipal Building

 

The Planning Board hears and decides cases during public hearings where an applicant has submitted a plan in accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Land Use Law.  They also administer the provisions of the Township's land development ordinance and reviews the Township Master Plan at least once every six years.

 

Board of Adjustment

 

The Board of Adjustment meets on the first Tuesday and third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Municipal Building.

 

The Board of Adjustment hears and decides cases during public hearings where an applicant is proposing a plan that is not permitted in the zone pursuant to the Township’s Land Development Ordinance.  They also respond to requests for interpretation of the zoning map or ordinance. 

 

Environmental Commission

 

The Environmental Commission meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Municipal Building.

 

The Environmental reviews Planning Board and Board of Adjustment applications makes recommendations as may be appropriate.

 

Historic Preservation Commission

       

The Historic Preservation Commission meets on the third Monday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Municipal Building.

 

The duties of the Historic Preservation Commission are to protect,  enhance and preserve sites and structures which exhibit historical, architectural or cultural significance for the community. 

 

Recreation Committee

 

The Recreation Committee meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM at the Annex on Kenbury Road.

 

The Recreation Committee determines the need for recreation programs and activities.  They assist the recreation director in the formulation of appropriate proposals for the funding of all recreation programs in the township, public and private and other duties and responsibilities as are consistent with advising and assisting the recreation director and helping to carry out an effective system of recreation programs and activities for

 

 

 

Parks Committee

 

The Parks Committee meets on the first Monday of each month at 7:30 PM at the Annex on Kenbury Road.

 

The Parks Committee recommends the development and improvement of all parks, playgrounds, recreation spaces and open spaces.  Other duties include assisting the recreation director to carry out an effective system of parks, playgrounds, recreation spaces and open spaces in the township.

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Municipal Building.

 

The Communications Committee oversees the flow of information and ideas between Township residents, non-profit organizations serving the Township and governmental and educational entities.   The Communications Committee also works with cable television suppliers (and similar services) who provide services to the Township.

 

Agricultural Advisory Committee

 

The Agricultural Advisory Committee meets hall meet at least once annually.  Meetings are held in the Municipal Building.

The responsibilities of the Agricultural Advisory Committee includes understanding and analyzing how the Township Committee can encourage agriculture in Branchburg.

Open Space Advisory Committee

 

The Open Space Advisory Committee meets shall meet at least once annually and from time to time as it deems necessary to meet its responsibilities as needed in the Municipal Building.

 

The Open Space Advisory Committee reviews and recommends the acquisition of property within the Township.
