Court Administrator

The Municipal Courts in New Jersey are considered courts of limited jurisdiction, having responsibility for motor vehicle and traffic violations, quasi-criminal offenses (i.e. disorderly and petty disorderly persons offenses), municipal ordinance violations, certain penalty enforcement actions, including fish and game violations, specified criminal offenses where indictment and trial by jury are waived by the defendant, enforcement of miscellaneous regulatory violations and conducting probable cause hearings for indictable offenses. The territorial jurisdiction of a Municipal Court extends only to the boundaries of its municipality unless it is a joint Municipal Court, in which case it extends to the combined boundaries of its constituent municipalities.
